Petrov had a good academic record, taking his A-levels in Quantum Mechanics, Quantum and regular Physics, Warp Mechanics, and Math.

Petrov joined the Academy at 21 and graduated at 24, with good results in shuttle piloting and tactical simulations, as well as a good understanding of Federation and other technology. He is accurate with most long-range weapons. Runs bat'telh simulations. Capable in a fight with most weapons.

Petrov has complained he is not particularly comfortable in uniform.
